What is beach yoga like?

Yoga on the beach is a beautiful experience. I often call the beach Mother Nature’s studio because it compliments yoga so much!

Mother Ocean has the power to bring you into the present moment, and heal you with it’s salty ionized breezes. According to the Lung Institute, ocean air “improves lung function, thins mucus and reduces coughing in individuals with lung disease and/or breathing issues.” It releases endorphins and has an overall healing and calming effect on the body and mind.

Beach yoga is therapeutic for the body. Practicing yoga on the beach helps to improve our balance! Working secondary muscles especially in the feet aid in keeping our bodies healthy. Beach yoga improves flexibility and strength.

Our classes have an open and welcoming feeling! Classes are relaxed and often include pranayama, and meditation as well as asana.

The scenery is incredible for photos 📷. We see full moon’s rise over the horizon, rainbows, anticrepuscular rays and beautiful beach sunsets.

Please stay out of the dunes! They protect our little island from storm surge from Hurricanes! Also, there are rattlesnakes in the dunes so only use the designated paths and crossovers.

Our classes are relaxed, welcoming and beginner friendly. We love sharing this experience with everyone and everyBODY!

What to bring?

Bring a large beach towel or tapestry instead of your yoga mat because the sand and sun can ruin a nice mat quickly! Dress in cool and comfortable clothing that you can move around in. Layers are key especially in spring and fall as it gets a little cooler when the sun goes down. Bring some water and wear your sunglasses or a hat and sunscreen! I highly suggest wearing your bathing suit under your clothes and taking a dip in the ocean after class!

Where to park?

We meet on the beach at Mermaid Point. Mermaid Point is the Southernmost point on the island. To get there, you will take Butler Avenue south till it ends at 19th St and instead of making a left into the 19th St parking lot you will make a right and then a left into the Chatham Avenue parking lot. Park there and take the wooden access onto the beach. If Chatham Ave parking lot is full you can park at 19th or at the run over parking lot between 19th and Chatham. We are usually gathered in front of each beach access but we do move around some due to tides, wind, etc. If you are having trouble finding us text 912-678-1456 and I can help you find us.

Covid 19 precautions?

All of our community classes are a pay what you can donation or free! Locals and visitors welcome! We ask that you and your party stay at least 6 feet apart from others. There is plenty of beach, let’s use the space!
